TSA Competitors

The Spotswood TSA chapter took 11 students to the National TSA Conference and Competition event held June 22-26 at the National Harbor Gaylord Convention Center and Resort in Oxen Hill, MD. Thousands of middle and high school students from across the country gathered for the event and competed in over 80 competitions.

Spotswood student Sean Lin took top honors in the CO2 Dragster Design competition. Sean competed against more than 190 entries.  After preliminary judging, Sean & classmate Yajat Vyas earned positions in the final 16-car double elimination tournament which Sean successfully navigated for the 1st Place trophy.  Spotswood’s 1st TSA National winner since 2002!

Sean then joined forces with classmate Omar Mahmood in the Structural Design competition where their efforts were rewarded with a 3rd place finish.  After the preliminary round the competition was reduced to the top 20 teams who then created a structure on site in just a few hours.  Their 20 gram structure managed to hold 189 pounds, which along with their preliminary score was good enough to earn the bronze.

Yajat competed in the Webmaster competition with classmate Kerem Akin and earned top 10 finalist recognition.

Students also enjoyed the National Harbor atmosphere, unique dining establishments, resort amenities, the chance to meet and interact with like-minded students from around the country, trading pins and experiences throughout the week.

All the Spotswood TSA chapter members would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to the people and organizations who have supported us this year: Cross Keys - Mill Creek Ruritan Club, Aramark Concessions, Appleseed Foundation & Irene Cummings - THANK YOU!
