Spotswood High School will be closed today, Monday, October 23. They are without power this morning due to a blown transformer.

Due to an electrical issue, Spotswood High School (only Spotswood High School will be closed today). Buses will return students and I am sending drivers home. If you dropped off your student they will remain in the large commons. Rad

SHS Events for the week of 10/23/23

Today was the first of a two day field trip for 9th grade Environmental Science students. Students visited Grand Caverns Park to test the quality of the South River by completing a water testing lab and searching for macroinvertebrates in different parts of the river. Students also toured Grand Caverns. A big thank you goes to Ms. Swartzentruber and Mrs. Crannell for putting this experience together for our students.

Football and Senior Night schedule changes due to impending weather on Friday.

Your Marching Trailblazers were first overall in Class A. They won Fan Favorite, Best Percussion, Best Visual, and Best General Effect. JMU's Parade of Champions is a premier band competition on the east coast! They may be small in number, but they are large of heart and talent. They work hard each day to represent SHS well in events they take part in. We are EXTREMELY PROUD of this family of Trailblazers. ITS A GREAT DAY TO BE A BLAZER!

Our flyer is now updated with a QR code (link to our Amazon Wish List) for those who'd love to participate this way! Spotswood High School now has a care closet, the Blazin’ Blue Outfitters. We are currently in need of hygiene-related products to stock our shelves. If you’re willing to donate any of the items on the list, the SHS Ruriteens will have a table set up near the ticket booth on Friday, October 6th, at the Homecoming game. Donations will be accepted from 5:30-7:30.

Here are the SHS Events for the week of 9/25/23. Good Luck to the Golf team as they compete in the Region 3C tournament on Monday.

Mr. Powell, our Economics and Personal Finance teacher was surprised today with a second-place finish from the Virginia Council for Economics Education Awards for his lesson he wronte on "The Economics of Legos". This is the second of two awards Mr. Powell has received for his lesson. The first award was a first-place finish through the JMU Center for Economics Educations which he will be recognized for in October. Mr. Powell will be recognized for his second-place state award in December at a dinner at the Federal Reserve in Richmond. Congratulations Mr. Powell!

Join our theater students for a Dinner Mystery on September 29, 2023. Thanks to Olive Garden, Your Pie and The Mimslyn Inn will supply the spaghetti dinner for the event.

You are invited to come out to SHS on Tuesday night, September 19, 2023, to enjoy the annual City/County Marching Band Showcase. Spotswood, Broadway, East Rockingham, Harrisonburg, and Turner Ashby High School will demonstrate their talents at Adam Miller Field (Football/Soccer Stadium). The event begins at 7:00, and the SHS Marching Band Boosters will have concessions available to purchase. There is no charge for the event - all are welcome.
